High-security Car Keys: A Web Update

In today's high-tech world, you'd expect professional locksmiths to know their way around the web, but if they think they have to go online to handle key concerns with a new car or truck, you might think about finding a new security pro. That's because many of the latest vehicles feature what are called "side-milled" keys, in which the business end has been ground down along its wider sides, not its narrow edge, to create a high-security solution to vehicle access. The remaining metal is called the "web" of the key, and getting this right is just as important as grinding the security grooves themselves. In fact, specialized tools are required, and a few thousandths of an inch can make the difference between a key that smoothly and quickly engages every time to one that binds and sticks—and requires yet another call to a locksmith. Of course, you could just call Bill’s Mobile Lock first. We’re available for emergencies 24/7 at 734-421-1230, with more information at our own website: www.billsmobilelock.net

Why You Can't Judge a Lock by Its Looks

While most folks may know counterfeit money when they see it, the same isn't always true about counterfeit locks. In fact, it can be tough for even the experts to tell a fake at first glance, because many of them look just like their high-quality counterparts—at least from the outside. It's only when a locksmith comes to do repair work, and has to disassemble the hardware, that the truth comes out. And that's when you find out if your locksmith can handle surprises. Of course, at Bill's MobileLock, we've been handling all kinds of security surprises for more than 25 years now. That incudes dealing with the growing wave of knock-off parts from overseas manufacturers, although, to be sure, our way of "dealing" with them is to never use fakes in the first place. Counterfeit locks may be less expensive than those from the name brands, but they're also less secure, too, and more difficult to fix. In many cases, for example, traditional locksmith tools aren't usable on the counterfeits, which aren’t designed to standard industry specifications. On the other hand, if we do encounter substandard hardware, we'll work to provide practical solutions that resolve not only those issues, but any of your security needs.
