Older systems often failed to provide much in the way of security at all; for example, having a bad guy gain access to an apartment building after pressing all the buttons on the intercom security panel wasn’t just a movie cliché—it was an accurate portrayal of a very common, real-life flaw in low-tech applications.

But today, thanks to companies like Viking Electronics, advanced telephone-style setups can provide robust security measures that include voice and visual communications links to whoever is in charge of granting access, and this includes links to off-site phones, too. Plus, many phone systems also can act as keypad systems that can grant access based on pre-programmed security codes.

The Viking advantage comes into play because the company offers innovations such as special software that changes systems from one mode to the other with a minimum of fuss—which is why Bill’s MobileLock in turn offers plenty of intercom-style security solutions, for both residential and commercial settings, from Viking.

To learn more about how we can leverage this technology for your specific needs, contact us today 734-421-1230 or visit online at: www.billsmobilelock.net.

A Door-closer Designed for Versatility

While many of today’s security solutions have gone “high tech,” relatively simple hardware such as door closers are still a vital part of the equation. Of course, even with door closers, finding the right replacement units can be a challenge. Different doors require different closers, and demand different capabilities, and there a lot of different doors out there.

But thanks to the versatile Design Hardware 316R Series Replacement Door Closer, they don’t have to. This versatile system relies on a patented mounting plate with 24 pre-drilled holes set in a variety of patterns to allow it to be used on at least 32 types of doors, regardless of whether they’re “right-handed” or “left-handed”—and without having to do extra drilling. Yet the 316R is still robust enough to meet important ANSI and UL standards, including critical requirements of the American Disabilities Act.

The result is a win-win for the locksmith and the customer, both of whom benefit from one piece of hardware that’s capable of meeting many different demands. Of course, delivering these kinds of results is what we do at Bill’s Mobile Lock, whether its for commercial or residential security. The problem is, relying on these security solutions, which were once on the cutting edge of technology, has become so standard that unauthorized users now have little trouble defeating them.

So it’s a good thing that top names in security like HID Global and Schlage—and Bill’s Mobile Lock—can offer the latest advances in credential-based security to make things easier on everyone—except for the bad guys.

These new systems can embed multiple security resources in a single card/badge to add multiple levels of security protection at a highly affordable cost. But in some cases, an additional layer of protection—video surveillance—is needed. And that’s when you need a comprehensive security provider like Bill’s Mobile Lock.

We stay on the cutting-edge of the industry by offering video surveillance systems from top names like VideoIQ, a leader in the marketplace. VideoIQ’s newest lineup of products delivers advantages including HD cameras, distributed storage leveraging a variety of solid-state hard-drive solutions, compatibility with both Ethernet and Wi-Fi networks, and a full suite of camera software with high-end analytics, yet they showcase high-value pricing, too.

According to Locksmith Ledger International, a premier publication for the security industry, because of VideoIQ’s “superior real-time threat detection, customers can effectively prevent theft and vandalism at 1/5th the cost of an onsite guard.”

Bill’s Mobile Lock also is your source for video-surveillance enablers such as PoE (power over Ethernet) and wireless remote-access systems. And while one of the primary means of achieving this is with traditional, key-based mechanical locks, they're not always the best choice. The versatility of electromechanical locks, which deliver a wide variety of access solutions, can far outweigh any difference in cost.

Think about it: A standard mechanical lock will allow access to anyone with a key, at any time, without keeping a record of who may be using it. Then, revoking access means the potential hassle of trying to get back the physical key itself or getting a new lock—or locks. But with an electromechanical lock, controlling access in these kinds of scenarios, as well as many others, just takes a few minutes of reprogramming.

What's more complicated, though, is knowing which security solution is the right one for your particular needs. But Bill's Mobile Lock is here to help. Our family-run business has been meeting security needs in the Detroit metro area for decades, building up a strong reputation for honesty and quality.

To find out how we can help you, give us a call at 734-421-1230 or visit us online at:

www.billsmobilelock.net

Keyless Security Comes Home

At Bill's Mobile Lock, we pride ourselves on staying current with the latest security technologies, and that includes a new innovation from an old and established name: Master Lock.

The company recently introduced a new electronic door lock designed specifically for home use. Now, you often see this kind of thing on cars or in commercial settings, but it's relatively new for residences, and features a 10-digit weather-resistant keypad that retains the look of a standard key-operated door lock. For added peace-of-mind, homeowners can use the NightWatch function to prevent the lock from being opened from the outside even with the right key or pass code.

And it also relies on an advanced key cylinder with Master Lock's BumpStop technology as a backup system.

To find out more about this innovative new home-security solution—and whether it's right for your house—contact us today at 734-421-1230 or visit us online at www.billsmobilelock.net.

Standalone Electromechanical Locks: When Was the Last Time You Changed the Batteries?

Think of them the same way you would of as a home fire-detector: If you''re using standalone electromechanical locks, you should change the batteries once a year. The only thing is, there's no big marketing campaign to remind folks about these locks, so it can be easy to forget. And if they're not part of a networked security solution, you might never know your protection has been compromised—until it's too late.

You could take the matter into your own hands, but remember: As opposed to those fire detectors, it's not always a simple matter to change the batteries in an electromechanical lock. We can service a wide range of standalone electromechanical locks from a wide range of manufacturers, and we can even set you up with an annual schedule for ongoing security maintenance.

Our number is 734-421-1230, and you also can visit us online at:
www.billsmobilelock.net

A Stealthy Approach to Security for Modular Homes and RVs

At Bill's Mobile Lock, we can provide home security solutions regardless of what type of home you have—and that includes modular homes and RVs, too.

For example, in these kinds of settings, or other locations that have a wooden sub-floor, we can recommend in-the-floor safes like those made by the Stealth Safe Company. But using them on exterior doors can lead to a frustrating and expensive situation: On cold winter days, for example, you might want the door to close a little quicker to prevent your building's heat from escaping, which drives up energy bills. That used to mean hand-adjusting the closing rate in each individual door, often on a regular basis. But not anymore.

The Norton company has now introduced its Trinity 9000 Series door closers, which pack a self-powered onboard sensing system that can identify changes in temperature and automatically adjust a door's closing rate without a hassle.

The Trinity 9000 Series is just one of the many door-closing solutions on the market today, and Bill's Mobile Lock has the know-how and experience to help you find the one that's right for your needs.

Give us a call at 734.421.1230 or visit online at: www.billsmobilelock.net.

Bill's Mobile Lock: The Masters of Master Keying

When you think about, the fact that so many people still rely on common pin tumbler locks and master keying for both business and residential uses in today's digital era is a bit of a surprise. But higher costs for digital locks mean master keying isn't going away anytime soon, which is fine, provided you understand the system's inherent limitations—or hire a professional locksmith that does.

That's when it's time to contact Bill's Mobile Lock, where our expertise makes the difference. For example, we know that every time you cut a different key pattern for a given setup, the risk to your security goes up exponentially; so, we work closely with our clients to understand exactly what their security needs are—and how to meet them—before we get to work.

And we'll use the same proven approach to security if you need us to service an existing master-key system.

Give Bill's Mobile Lock a call at 734-421-1230 to find out more about why we should be your choice for master-key security solutions, and be sure to check us out online at: www.billsmobilelock.net.

Bill's Mobile Lock: A Combination of Skills and Experience

You might think servicing a standard safe with a basic three-wheel combination lock is a simple matter, and it can be—provided your locksmith is already familiar with that particular style of lock. But the thing is, even with the more common three-wheel direct-drive lock, there can be big differences in how their individual mechanisms actually work.

And asking a locksmith to work on a lock when he doesn't understand how that lock works is like expecting a mechanic to know how to fix a car without knowing how the engine works.

Now, we can't promise we'll be familiar with every single lock we come across, but what I can promise is that the team at Bill's Mobile Lock is dedicated to constantly expanding our knowledge about locks of all kinds, old and new. So we read with interest Jeremy Reeder's recent story in Locksmith Ledger International, getting an expert refresher course on anatomy of three high-level three-wheel combinations locks.

If your locksmith doesn't have this kind of material on his or her "must read" list, you should give us a call at 1-734-421-1230 or visit www.billsmobilelock.net.

Why Your Security May "Hinge" on Bill's Mobile Lock

While high-quality locks may be the right place to start in terms of securing your doors, they certainly aren't the place to finish. That's because your doors' hinge can be just as important for protecting both you and your property.

Take fire-rated doors: They come in many shapes and sizes, but usually incorporate one of just three standard hinge types: butt hinges, pivot hinges or a continuous hinge. On the other hand, even with just this trio of options to consider, there are plenty of variables that need to be taken into account.

What is the door made of? Where is it located? How is it attached to its frame? And just looking at butt hinges, the National Fire Protection Association lists a number of specific regulations regarding hole size, hole diameter and hole location. Getting things wrong can prevent a business from opening due to code violations, or even worse could happen if a fire actually occurs and a fire door isn't hung properly.

Bill's Mobile Lock aims to keep you, your family and your business safe and sound by going beyond working on "just" locks: We have the experience and knowledge to be your complete security solution: Just call us at (734) 421-1230 or visit us at www.billsmobilelock.net.

A New Lock for an Old Favorite

The Hon company is known for producing high-quality file cabinets, with certain models—like the F24/F28 vertical cabinets sold after 1988, as well as the Series 100 vertical units—seeing years and years of service in a wide range of applications. But despite being relatively common, servicing these cabinets can require special attention, because they use non-standard cam-style locks that are secured into the cabinet face with a spring clip.

But now there's a fresh new alternative for replacing the original locks on these Hon vertical file cabinets: The Olympus FC10.

It's an excellent choice for providing updated security measures and boasts a number of security-friendly features. For example, the Olympus FC10 can be configured as "keyed alike," "keyed differently," or "master keyed," and it also features a patented cylinder-retainer staple, along with a removable spring retainer, to allow for easy rekeying.

Because the team at Bill's Mobile Lock is committed to keeping up with the latest security products on the market, the Olympus FC10 is just one of many innovative new products we offer our customers everyday. And while that might make you think that something that IS screwed down is safe, that's not the case, even with tamper-resistant screws.

This isn't to say they don't have their place, though. Tamper-resistant screws can be used anywhere you would use a normal screw, the key difference being the head of the former incorporates design features that make them difficult—but not impossible—to loosen without special tools. As a result, they're best thought of as a low-cost option to discourage "casual" vandals who may be out to steal playground equipment or tamper with utility lock boxes and the like.

And one particular benefit with these screws is that most are quick to show evidence of tampering, so routine checks can let you know if someone is trying to defeat your security measures.

But knowing when it's appropriate to use tamper-resistant screws can be a question for the experts, like those at Bill's Mobile Lock. We can provide you with the input you need to decide if these screws are right for your requirements, and then we can provide you with a professional installation and service as well.

For more information, give us a call at 734-421-1230 or visit online at www.billsmobilelock.net.

Today's Rekeyable Locks: Pros and Cons

Let's say you have a rental property, and one of your tenants is moving out, and another moving in. Even if you've got the keys back from the first individual, you want to make sure that person can't use a copy of those keys to regain access. But you also don't want to go through the process of installing new locks every time this sort of situation pops up. The solution: Rekeyable locks from top-name manufacturers like Schlage and Kwikset.

These devices are specifically made to allow customers like you—that is, people who aren't pro locksmiths—to quickly and easily rekey the locks so they only work with new keys, without having to change the locks themselves. More importantly, they boast new mechanisms that are highly bump-resistant, protecting your property against a common technique used to break into homes, apartments and offices throughout the country.

Just remember: The security provided by these rekeyable locks is so impressive that if you have a lockout situation and have lost the master key/rekeying tool, the only way in is by drilling and replacing the lock—even locksmiths won't be able to pick it.

To find out if rekeyable locks are right for your needs, contact Mark at Bill's Mobile Lock today (734-421-1230) or visit online at www.billsmobilelock.net.

IC Lock Systems: Core Benefits

It used to be there was a big trade-off for those managing multiple points of entry to a secure location, whether it was a warehouse, a school building or even an apartment complex. A system that focused on key management provided great security, but it also brought a lot of hassle if you ever needed to install new locks. The alternative was to rely on locks that were easy to change out when necessary, but were likewise easier to defeat.

But interchangeable core (IC) locks, first developed during World War II, are now putting an end to that dilemma. Available from a number of prestigious manufacturers, IC locks offer excellent security features. However, if/when you need to change them, a professional locksmith, using specifically designed keys, can remove only the core of the lock and leave the rest of the hardware in place. That makes the process quicker, easier and less expensive.

To find out if IC locks are right for your needs, or for service on your existing IC locks, be sure to call the pros at Bill's Mobile Lock at (734) 421-1230 or visit us online at: www.billsmobilelock.net.

Key Management Tips From the Pros

If you're overseeing security in an environment that relies on keys—whether they're digital or physical—one thing you don't want to overlook is proper key management.

Experts agree that there are three "key" things to keep in mind here:

Key making—A well-managed key system requires tight control over who can make keys and how they are made.

Key taking—Security should be considered compromised any time a key gets taken out of the hands of its proper user, even before the system is actually breached. Proper key management means being able to verify the right people have the right keys on a regular basis.

Key breaking—In the first place, can you identify a breach in security? It can be tougher than you think, especially with digital keys that may leave no physical evidence of misuse. That's just part of a comprehensive key-management plan that must be in place to help deal with a potential break in the chain of security.

Here's one more tip: If people are depending on you for their security, you can depend on Bill's Mobile Lock for help. And this includes making sure you have the right hardware—or software—you need to make key management more manageable. The company's new StealthLock is designed specifically as an affordable, effective solution to a meet a wide variety of needs.

The keyless, wireless system relies on a small keypad, a strike plate and Compx's unique Receiver Latch, which is mounted inside whatever you want to protect. This, and the hardware's compact size, allows you to benefit from proven security without having a big, ugly piece of equipment on the outside of a cabinet or locker.

Another important advantage of the Compx StealthLock: Three separate, easy-to-program operating modes. In self-lock mode, the Receiver Latch will automatically relock itself in 10 seconds, eliminating the potential for the door to be unintentionally left unlocked. In the passage/manual mode, the system remains unlocked until a specific "lock" command is used. Finally, in single-use mode, the StealthLock allows a user to set a one-time access code for when an item may need only temporary storage, e.g., for a locker in a public library.

The battery-operated StealthLock also features an alarm to remind users to change batteries when they're running low on power and a "breakaway-style" latch that can be forced open in emergencies without ruining either the lock or the container being secured.

For more information on this versatile security solution—or help with any of your business or residential security needs—call Bill's Mobile Lock at 734-421-1230 or visit:
www.billsmobilelock.net

Security for the Security Experts

It's kind of like being a doctor who still smokes cigarettes: There are locksmiths out there who know all about providing airtight security for their clients but don't always follow the same principles themselves. And by not doing so, these folks aren't only putting their own businesses at risk, they're also doing the same to important personal information from the very people they're paid to protect.

That's because in today's computer-oriented world, it can be easy to give into temptation and store customer data—from credit card numbers to key records—on electronic devices that are easy for the wrong people to access. That can leave your customers open to threats like identity theft, with you being held liable in some cases for the damages.

To minimize this risk, I recommend following a few simple guidelines. These include using an off-site third-party to manage your records, keeping detailed records of what files you have, properly deleting/disposing of outdated info you no longer need, implementing passwords for access to confidential information and regularly auditing your security measures to make sure they're still effective.

There's one more, too: Contact the experts at Bill's Mobile Lock for further information about security for the security professional by calling (734) 421-1230 or visiting www.billsmobilelock.net.

A KeySafe for Key Control

It can be a difficult situation: You've got a secure location and you naturally want to keep unwanted intruders out. But on the other hand, you want to make it easy for routine visitors, like delivery people, meter readers or cleanup crews, to get in. And at the same time, you want to avoid the potential trouble that can come with passing out too many copies of your keys.

Well, now there's an easy solution: The GE Security KeySafe P500 is a heavy-duty tamper-resistant, weather-resistant key holder that can be installed on site to provide simple, safe access to your facility for those who need it—and help keep out those who don't.

The P500 can fit both mechanical and electronic keys, and it leverages a 12-character (10 numbers, 2 letters) combination lock for safety. It also features a built-in disengagement mechanism that prevents the unit from being forced open when an incorrect combination is tried.

For an added measure of protection, the P500 can be integrated into an already existing security system so that if someone tampers with the KeySafe, an alarm is triggered.

The GE Security KeySafe P500 is an ideal way to get an added measure of security without adding significantly to your security budget. The key is knowing when it's the right time to use something like tamper-resistant screws and when it's time to invest in a more robust—but also more expensive—security option.

Tamper-resistant screws are designed to be easy to install but hard to remove, at least without the right tools. Instead of a regular slot or Phillips head, these screws may feature spanner heads, one-way heads or tamper-resistant Allen heads, all of which both require unique tools to unscrew and easily show if someone has tried to force them.

For non-residential applications where you may just be worried about low-grade vandalism, such as vending machine coin returns, these kinds of screws are usually just fine. They provide enough security to prevent loss but without costing so much you spend more on security than on what you're protecting.

On the other hand, it's important to remember your security is only as strong as its weakest link. Consider this scenario: You've got a high-security keypad in place, complete with electromagnetic lock, but the keypad is attached to the door with tamper-resistant screws that are easily accessed by a potential bad guy. Well, you can be sure a pro would be able to quickly unscrew those screws anyway—they're tamper-resistant, not tamper-proof.

Then, after he gets access to the keypad's wiring, he might just be able to cut power to its lock and get in. In other words, this would be one case where something more than tamper-resistant screws would be needed.

At Bill's MobileLock, though, we'll be sure to set you up with the right security options, at the right price, and with the right kind of customer service. Especially if that "gap" is the space between an outside door and its door jamb.

That's because potential vandals have plenty of tricks for attacking a door's latch or bolt if they can get at it. But don't worry, at Bill's Mobile Lock, our job to make sure they can't.

We have a number of tried-and-true security solutions that have proven to be effective over the years. On some doors, we can use latch-protection hardware that fits on the door itself and extends to cover the space between the door and the jamb. These guards are available in different styles and finishes, and can even include integrated door handles.

Another option is a high-security strike plate that instead of covering the vulnerable area, reinforces it, while also significantly reducing any space between the door and the jamb.

Just as importantly, Bill's Mobile Lock will also provide you with a high-quality installation and customer service you can count on, day or night.

Check us out at www.billsmobilelock.net or call 734-421-1230.

Summer's Coming: Is Your Pool Gate Ready?

With spring now here in full force, summer can't be far behind. And that means swimming pool season. Of course, before you open the pool for the year—whether you're a homeowner or manage an apartment complex—there's a lot of preparing to do. Routine pool maintenance, stocking up on chlorine, even buying new inflatables might all come to mind—but when was the last time you checked the gate of the fence surrounding your pool?

Most gate-closing systems rely on a simple coil-spring mechanism that can easily lose its closing power over time, as the springs get stretched out from constant use. The result, an unlatched gate, could leave you open to significant liability; worse, it could also lead to an easily avoidable tragedy.

The solution: Locksmith David Mowery has developed a unique "positive force gate closing system" (PFGCS) that uses the same principles as the kind of overhead door-closing arms used in numerous applications around the country.

The positive-force system doesn't rely on coil springs to slam the gate door shut—potentially deforming/damaging the springs—but can be adjusted to pull the door shut efficiently, with just the right amount of force to ensure the gate shuts completely.

But Mowery's big breakthrough was to design his system so that overhead attachment points aren't necessary. The PFGCS can be attached to just about any standard gate, making it suitable for just about any pool fence.

At Bill's Mobile Lock, we can use this new technology to provide you with a safe, efficient gate-closing mechanism that you won't wear down as quickly as standard systems, while providing better peace of mind.

Contact us today to find out more by calling 734-421-1230 or visiting:
www.billsmobilelock.net

A Look Back at Locksmithing Through the Ages

Locksmithing may be a big business now, but it's also a surprisingly old one: Most experts believe locks were first introduced thousands of years ago, although no one is quite sure who invented them. Some think it was the ancient Egyptians, others the Greeks or Chinese.

What is certain is that in 2000 B.C., Romans were already using relatively advanced wooden-pin tumbler-type locks that worked on the same principles as today's pin tumbler devices. However, it wasn't until nearly 1,000 years later that keys and locks became readily available to most of the public, and padlocks weren't in regular use in Europe until medieval times.

Again, these ward-type locks relied on mechanisms that are very similar to those found in current padlocks, although with the occasional twist: For example, some English padlocks from the Middles Ages had the keyhole designed into the side, not the front, of the lock.

Eventually, locks also moved from the purely practical to undoubtedly artistic, especially when they were used by royalty. Catherine the Great, who ruled Russia from 1762-1796, was particularly interested in creatively designed security devices, commissioning carefully crafted locks in the shapes of scorpions and horses.

It was around this time that lock design really took off in the U.S., too, with about 3,000 different types patented between America's independence and the year 1920. This included the first locks by pioneers like Linus Yale and Walter Schlage, whose names live on today in two of the country's most well-known lock companies, Yale and Schlage.

Of course, there's more to locksmithing than ancient history, and Bill's Mobile Lock prides itself on offering the latest security technologies for home and business. It just takes a monitor, a recorder, the right number of cameras and a way to connect them.

There's a lot of different CCTV systems out there, though, with a wide range of different capabilities. Both cameras and monitors come in a variety of sizes; systems can record in color or black and white; you can network the system or connect with fiber optics, coaxial cable, telephone lines, microwaves and other options; and there are more choices when it comes to recording media.

But that's where Bill's Mobile Lock can help.

I've got the expertise and experience to help you find the CCTV system that best fits your needs, then I can make sure you get an expert installation, too. But there also plenty of things that we, as honest businesspeople, can do to help.

First off, get involved with industry groups like the Associated Locksmiths of America (www.aloa.org) and MMLA (www.mmlalocksmiths.com). These organizations can provide assistance ranging from brochures for your customers to professional advice on protecting your business against the shady practices of others. I can also recommend locksmithwiki.com and legallocksmiths.com as great resources.

Second, pay attention to your "bedside manner." Unfortunately, the bad guys are already making their influence felt, so many potential customers—especially those who call you for emergency lockout service—expect the worst. That means you should always do your best.

Answer their questions honestly and in language they understand, and don't be offended if they ask for ID or question you about how long your company has been in business. Remember, they have the same goal you do: Finding a high-value, high-quality locksmith solution to their current needs.

That's the way we do business at Bill's Mobile Lock, and I urge all other locksmiths to take the same approach. After all, a better locksmith industry is good for everyone—except the scammers.

For more information on Bill's Mobile Lock, call us at 734-421-1230 or visit us at www.billsmobilelock.net.

Bill's Mobile Lock: A Name You Can Trust

One of the main reasons for calling a locksmith is to help protect yourself against theft. A high-quality security solution from a high-quality locksmith can be just the thing to convince criminals to look elsewhere.

Unfortunately, in many cities today, it's the locksmiths themselves who are the problem. More and more, out-of-state con artists and scammers are using misleading ads and Web sites—along with outright lies—to trick people into paying big money for shoddy locksmith services.

One of their most common scams is to claim a customer's broken lock is a "high security" piece of hardware that has to be drilled out and replaced, often for hundreds of dollars, when a less-expensive fix is readily available.

But that's something you don't have to worry about with Bill's Mobile Lock. We're a family-run business that has been serving the Metro Detroit Area for more than 45 years. Mark, who took over Bill's Mobile Lock from his parents and now runs it with his wife, is fully insured and bonded, and he's also been certified as a registered locksmith by the Associated Locksmiths of America.

When you need to feel secure about your security provider, call Bill's Mobile Lock at 734-421-1230 or visit us online at www.billsmobilelock.net.

You won't be disappointed—or ripped off.

Upgrade Your Locksmith to Upgrade to Mortise Locks

Replacing a standard cylindrical door lock with a mortise lock can seem like a simple decision. For some people, a mortise lock just looks better; others may like the fact that, with a mortise lock, they can use one turn of one key to get the security of both a latch and a bolt. But unless you turn to an expert locksmith to get the job done, that "simple" decision can quickly get complicated and expensive.

If you're a homeowner, you don't want to have to pay to meet all the restrictions and local ordinances that a business owner has to deal with. And likewise, the last thing an entrepreneur wants to find out is that a brand-new mortise lock has to be pulled out and replaced because the first one wasn't up to code.

Switching from a cylindrical to a mortise door lock also requires a locksmith who knows a thing or two about carpentry or metal-working. Multiple cuts to door hardware are needed when changing locks like this, and customers rightly expect the results to show a professional, high-quality appearance.

And when you choose Bill's Mobile Lock, that's exactly what you get. The buildings themselves can require a wide range of different types of hardware in different departments to keep everyone and everything adequately protected. Further, national and local rules and regulations also must be taken into account.

The expert team at Bill's Mobile Lock knows what it takes to provide up-to-date hospital security and can work with clients to make it happen. As just one example, hospitals often use drugs that need to be both refrigerated and secure. Our team can achieve this with hardware like the CompX eLock, which provides audit trails, a temperature monitor/alarm and keypad/prox/magstripe access.

To help with your hospital security headaches, take two aspirin and call us in the morning at 734-421-1230—or visit us online at www.billsmobilelock.net.www.billsmobilelock.net.

Want Wireless? That means you get lower installation costs and easy retrofits along with Grade 1 BHMA certification, the ability to support up to 5,000 users and the power to handle a 35,000-event audit trail. In addition, The systems are easy to run on a PC, thanks to Alarm Lock's DL Windows software.

Each Trilogy lock takes about an hour to install and runs on four "C" batteries, which the company claims is enough for five years of functionality.

Focusing on "stile" as well as substance, Alarm Lock has also introduced a new line of simple-to-use Narrow Stile Exit Trim pushbutton locks. Designed to resist vandalism while being compatible with many major brands of panic-exit devices, the Narrow Stile locks can support up to 2,000 users and a 40,000-event audit trail.

For more information on Alarm Lock products like the Trilogy Networx, or assistance with any of your residential or business security needs, contact us at 734-421-1230 or visit www.billsmobilelock.net.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://billsmobilelock.blogspot.com/2009/09/want-wireless-try-trilogy.html' title='Want Wireless? That's during working hours, when you need to open your front doors to the customers that keep you in business in the first place.

The solution: Camden Door Controls' new CV-EX36 doorframe camera. This high-resolution CCTV camera is designed to snap images of people right as they leave your store or business.

The actual CV-EX36 camera is hidden within the kind of "height strip" often found at store exits, so it's very unobtrusive. Yet it's also highly effective, even in low-light situations. The system is flexible as well, so it can be used with either a stand-alone monitor/DVR combination or as part of a more comprehensive CCTV system.

Either way, the CV-EX36 doorframe camera a great addition to any business' security strategy and can be expertly installed by the team at Bill's Mobile Lock. The proper hardware can protect both valuable property and, when used with fire doors, people's lives. That makes it crucial that your exit hardware is up to industry standards, which have recently changed for the first time since 2002.

In fact, the Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association, the organization accredited by ANSI to oversee product standards for architectural hardware, made a number of enhancements to exit security standards, including adding new tests for preload, key cylinder operation and outside pull.

That means that as good as your current exit safety was when you bought it, it still might not be up to today's more rigorous benchmarks. These will protect your valuables against heat of up to 1700 degrees F for two hours.

For more unique needs, Fort Knox Security Products offers a selection of gun safes and heirloom safes to go with their "standard" home safes. These products are designed specifically for custom uses and include attractive finishes to go with their effective protection and fireproofing features.

The Gary line from FireKing also includes specific-use safes, but these are oriented more towards the office. Front-deposit safes, executive safes, laptop safes and more are available, and all deliver high levels of security in a small package.

And if you're ready to step up to more serious levels of security with safes that have passed stringent Underwriters Laboraties' TL testing, Bill's Mobile Lock can help with this, too. To maximize your security, consider getting a safe rated to withstand both.

And speaking of ratings, both insurance companies and Underwriter's Laboratories (UL) offer them, and you should be aware of the differences. Most "big box" stores offer only B- and C-rated safes, which require UL-rated lock hardware, but don't have to undergo any physical testing.

To see how a safe stands up to this kind of testing, look for a UL listing label: A safe labeled a Residential Security Container has resisted entry for five minutes in a UL test using specific tools and methods; a TL-15 safe can resist entry for 15 minutes; a TL-30 for 30 minutes, etc.

Fire protection information should also be on the safe's label, providing information about how long it was tested, at what temperature it was tested and the highest internal temperature measured during the test. Be especially careful about storing items like computer discs and similar media, which may need special humidity protection, too.

If this sounds a little confusing, there's an easy way to make sure you get the right safe for your needs: Call Bill's Mobile Lock (734-421-1230) and talk to one of our friendly, trustworthy professionals. But when it comes to home security, sometimes spending just a little more now can stop you from having to pay a lot more later.

For example, a Grade 2 deadbolt lock is only about $10-$15 more than a Grade 3 deadbolt—the kind installed on most homes and sold in most big-box hardware stores. But the difference in the amount of security they provide can be priceless.

If you've got a Grade 3 lock on your front door, a thief could get inside within seconds using an ice pick and hammer. Then, once inside, chances are that the intruder will make away with a lot more than $10-$15 worth of your belongings.

Oh, didn't know there were different grades of locks? Many people don't; but you can be sure the experts at Bill's Mobile Lock do. If you're interested in more information about Grade 2 locks—or have any other home, mobile or commercial security concerns—give us a call at 734-421-1230 or visit: www.billsmobilelock.net.

Cabinet locks: A new alternative

When it comes to security, size doesn’t matter: you may have a small enclosure—from a cash drawer to a mobile drug cart—but still need a lock solution that offers big-time features. And that’s where the new RCI 3511 cabinet lock comes in.

The 3511 boasts a holding force of 180 lbs. and is suitable for enclosures with either wood or metal finishes. It also features a mechanical override in case of emergency, with the benefit that the override requires minor drilling, making it impossible for someone to use the override without being noticed. (Note that the drilling does not harm the lock.)

iButton technology is incorporated to handle up to 160 different users, and the 3511 has an innovative key-management system that makes programming simple. Plus, because it’s battery-operated, the lock doesn’t have to rely on an external power source.

The battery itself is good for up to three years/350,000 operations. Then, to warn users about low-battery life, an LED light comes on when about 50,000 operations remain.

RCI, formerly known as Rutherford Controls, is a long-time industry leader in electric-locking hardware, and the 3511 looks to be another winner from this established company. And in today’s economy, the challenges are even greater. Shoplifting losses have a bigger impact on the bottom line when business is down, which is also when the number of people who try shoplifting goes up.

Just look at the statistics: According to a recent article in “The National Locksmith,” shoplifters steal some $35 billion from retailers each year. And the National Association for Shoplifting Prevention reports that most of these people aren’t professional criminals; they shoplift “as a response to social and personal pressures in their life.”

For retailers, this means now is the time to take another look at the security of your store’s exits—especially those that would make tempting escape routes for shoplifters on the run.

At Bill’s Mobile Lock, we’re ready to help. Our team can help you decide what kind of exit alarm or alarmed exit hardware is best for your store, install what you need and then provide you with ongoing professional service.

Call us today to learn more!

www.billsmobilelock.net

Why ASSA ABLOY?

The team at Bill’s Mobile Lock is a big supporter of ASSA ABLOY products, and with good reason: The company is the world’s top manufacturer and supplier of locks, and an international leader in security technology.

And we’re not alone in preferring ASSA ABLOY for comprehensive security needs. When China was recently looking for a company that could provide security solutions for its new China Central Television (CCTV) building, designed by award-winning architect Rem Koolhaas and his Office for Metropolitan Architecture, ASSA ABLOY was the only choice.

Competing against top security companies from around the globe, ASSA ABLOY won the contract and is providing Yale mortise locks, door closers, panic devices and more for the 12,000-door building. (Yale is now part of the ASSA ABLOY group of companies.)

Bill’s Mobile Lock is proud to offer our customers security products backed by the same kind of global quality. Not only do we offer ASSA High Security Locks, but we’re also an authorized dealer for Mul-T-Lock, another important member of the ASSA ABLOY family.

To find out how we can use internationally tested products like these to meet your security needs—even if they’re for something a bit smaller than a 1.8-million-square-foot Chinese TV facility—contact us today at 734-421-1230.

www.billsmobilelock.net

Better security could be just a "Cliq" away

Looking for a lock system that mixes the benefits of both mechanical and electronic security options? Take a look at the new Cliq technology introduced by ASSA.

ASSA calls Cliq "an intelligent security system" that "retains a high level of security despite upgrading, alterations or expansion."

With the system, the keys have the same proven mechanical design found in ASSA's well-respected Twin key setups. (In fact, Cliq technology can be easily tied into specific Twin Max Master Key systems.) But the company then takes security into the 21st century by including a memory chip—containing an electronic side code—in the key bow for the advantages of an electronic security solution.

The Cliq system runs on simple-to-use software that can generate both a cylinder audit trail, which tracks the outcome every time a key—even an incorrect key—is inserted into the cylinder, and a key audit trail, which tracks the outcome every time the specific key is inserted into a Cliq cylinder. Installation is also simple, since existing door prep can often be used, and wires aren't necessary: the Cliq key uses a battery to power the Cliq cylinder's built-in electronics package, and the electronic components in both the key and cylinder are highly miniaturized.

If you're interested in learning how ASSA's Cliq technology can improve your security, call us today at 734-421-1230 for more details.

www.billsmobilelock.net

Wireless access: Is it right for you?

Like just about everything else in the world today, access control is going "high tech." New wireless systems that use Wi-Fi capabilities are hitting the market, offering a fresh solution when physically wiring (or re-wiring) a facility isn't an option.

If you're considering one of these systems, also consider:

Battery life: How often will you have to replace batteries at the locks? Does the system require regular, off-the-rack batteries or more expensive ones?
Hardware and software: Does the system operate on 802.11 b/g open-standard technology or the lock company's proprietary technology?
Scalability: Is the system a good fit and easy to integrate within your overall approach to access control?

At Bill's Mobile Lock, we can help you sort through these issues, and others, so you can decide if wireless access control meets your specific needs. If you choose to go wireless, we'll promptly and professionally install a system that gets the job done for you. And if you don't, Bill's Mobile Lock can provide a number of high-quality, high-security alternatives from top-name security companies.

Check out our Web site or call us today at 734-421-1230!

www.billsmobilelock.net

Keypad access: A simple solution

www.billsmobilelock.net

If one of your employees or a family member has lost the keys to your business or home, there's no telling who might end up with them. We can put in new locks for you, but what if it happens again? And again?

An easy way to permanently solve this problem is the use of keypad access. It's an excellent choice for many types of security situations, whether used as a standalone device or as part of a larger system.

A "key" benefit: The everyday user doesn't have to worry about losing or misplacing keys, and, just as importantly, neither does the business owner or person in charge of controlling access. Getting into a building secured by keypad access only requires a simple code,* while changing who gets access can be easily done using a central computer or right at the lock.

Today's keypads are robust enough to stand up to extreme temperatures, while also technologically advanced enough to provide activity logs that keep track of who is using them and when.

For all the details on how keypads can improve your security, contact Bill's Mobile Lock at 734-421-1230.

*"Keypads" can also include card readers and the latest cutting-edge biometric "fingerprint" reader locks.

The "Bumpy" Road to Better Security

I don't know how you feel about scary movies, but take a look at this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hr23tpWX8lM

It's a report on "lock bumping," a simple technique criminals across the country are using to defeat standard pin-tumbler door locks on homes and businesses. In fact, some 95% of such locks can be beaten this way, even those advertised as having "bump-proof" features.

It's also hard to tell whether a lock has been "bumped" or just left unlocked—and many insurance companies won't pay if they think a robber took advantage of an unlocked door.

Updating your locks is less expensive than replacing stolen property if your insurance company won't pay up, and a lot less hassle even if it does. It's also a small price to pay for the added personal security.

At Bill's Mobile Lock, we can help protect you—and your loved ones—against lock bumping with security solutions that don't use pin tumblers and are therefore truly bump proof.

www.billsmobilelock.net

Welcome to Bill's Mobile Locksmith Service

Bill's Mobile Lock services Wayne County, Michigan and the surrounding areas.
